I’m a member of the CTC, which was founded in 1878 and now, in 2009, has the highest ever membership. This site is designed to support my fellow club members (who, despite appearances, are not founder members) and to provide up-to-date route information, pictures, event announcements and product reviews.
Visitors may also find it a useful source of information on what we are about, the routes we follow as well as information on the latest GPS bike units, what to buy and how best to use them. If you are interested in the idea of club riding, there are links to the CTC in general and the specific member groups in Essex, including the SEG Group .
Two things make a cycle touring club great; the people and the routes. My fellow cyclists are as colourful as the Essex spring countryside, which although may not boast the spectacular scenery of say, the Dales, has an extensive network of lonely country lanes, teashops, village pubs and potholes. For these reasons, Essex is ideal for relaxed touring.
We meet each Sunday at 9:15 at Wickford Market Cafe for a 9:30 start. All ages and capabilities are welcome. We make a point to take care of less experienced or fit members and will not abandon you down some lonely country lane. The same goes for bikes; all are welcome and for some, the Spring’s ‘reliability’ rides, take on a special significance.
